IAAO
There
are now alternatives for IAAO members who want to get a designation,
but do not have a bachelor's degree. There are also some equivalencies
with other organizations that IAAO will now count toward the CAE and RES
designations. Review the qualifications for each designation online to
see what is accepted and how to meet the requirements. You might be
closer than you think to earning an IAAO designation.

IAAO Library has released a new subject guide on assessing landfills
and landfill impact on home values. Due to their contaminated nature,
landfills impact more than just the land they occupy. There are two
different ways to look at the valuation of landfills. The first is the

guide provides sources on both topics.

The
nation's declining dependence on coal-fired power plants is coming home
to roost in Northwest Colorado in the form of reduced property tax
valuation assigned to plants such as the Hayden Station in Routt County
and the Craig Station in Moffat County, and it looks like the result
will be reduced property tax revenues.

China
has no plans to implement a nationwide property tax this year, the
spokeswoman for China's parliament said, despite mounting expectations
that such measures would soon be introduced to restrain surging property
prices. For years, China has mulled an annual property tax, which could
deter speculation in real estate, though little progress has been made
due to resistance from stakeholders, such as local governments who rely
heavily on land sales for revenue.

The
Texas Supreme Court recently reversed and remanded a lower court's
decision in Valero Energy Corp.'s challenge to its Galveston County
refinery's $527 million appraisal, finding that once a district divides a
property into multiple accounts for appraisal, an owner can lawfully
appeal the valuation of some accounts and not the whole tract.

If
you are in an influential position, you have probably said words to the
effect of "My door is always open." You likely meant this declaration
very genuinely. You might well feel that you are a pretty approachable
sort of person and that others feel comfortable coming to you with their
issues and their ideas. This may be true. But it probably isn't.
