Arundel County's property tax base could expand by more than $168
million in the span of three years if assessors are allowed to use
aerial photographs to inspect homes and businesses, according to a
recent state report.
But General Assembly lawmakers this session appear to have shot down an
attempt by the Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT) to use the
photos for assessments in counties across Maryland, citing concerns
about privacy and rising taxes.

Property
tax relief for Urbana residents appears to be slipping away fast, at
least for this year.

been on track to help share the load by together being projected to owe
Urbana taxing districts more than $10 million in property taxes this
year, got an emergency rescue from the Illinois Supreme Court.

The
Maui County Council Budget and Finance Committee (BF) voted to defeat a
controversial proposed measure that would have drastically restructured
the way agricultural properties on Maui are assessed and raised taxes
on agricultural home sites. The legislation also added multiple layers
of paperwork, dedication requirements and a substantial increase in
government authority to regulate and control the business of farming
here.

Saint
John politicians, struggling with a slow growing tax base and looking
for examples of other industrial communities that raise more revenue
from their industries, are liking what they see in Alberta cities, such
as Fort McMurray and Sherwood Park.
Coun. Donna Reardon, who visited Fort McMurray last year with Coun. John
MacKenzie, said the experience opened her eyes to the fact that some
Canadian cities tax their industries a lot more than is allowed in New
Brunswick

the West End to Wayland Square, property values are increasing in
neighborhoods throughout Rhode Island’s capital city.

Farmers
will get property tax relief under a bill approved by the Indiana
General Assembly that passes a burden of about $136 million onto other
classes of taxpayers over the first three years.
Before adjourning for the year, lawmakers approved a bill that would
change the formula in calculating the base rate per acre of farmland,
the starting point for property tax assessment.
Proponents of the bill, including the Farm Bureau, said it would help
farmers who say they’ve suffered tighter margins, and to help stabilize a
dramatically rising farmland tax system.

Stamp
duty would be abolished and replaced with an annual land tax under a
new proposal.
Homeowners who moved house every eight years, or more frequently — just
over half of homeowners and capturing low-income earners in insecure
work — would be better off under the deal.
On a median priced Sydney home of $1,032,000, home buyers in NSW pay
$42,250 in upfront stamp duty at present.

All
effective local government managers have one thing in common: The
ability to develop and strengthen relationships through communication.
Skilled communicators have the ability to develop better working
relations with people they don't already know well, they take the time
to talk, to listen, and to exchange information to develop bonds of
understanding that can facilitate the communication process. Just think,
wouldn't it be great to have the ability to give clear assignments,
help employees solve problems, motivate them, and help them accomplish
their goals based on your ability to communicate with them?
