The
Indiana Board of Tax Review did not err when it reduced the property
assessments of Lafayette Square Mall for 2006 and 2007, the Indiana Tax
Court ruled.
In 2006 and 2007, the mall was owned by companies that were a part of
Simon Property Group. It sold the mall to Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp.
for $18 million in December of 2007, but had already started
administrative appeals challenging the mall’s 2006 and 2007 assessments.
The Marion County Property Tax Assessment Board of Appeals reduced them
to $28.1 million and $20 million in 2006 and 2007 respectively.

Pittsburgh
placed about 1,300 property tax assessment appeals on hold this year
while it comes up with a more fair process that could help keep
long-term residents in neighborhoods where real estate prices are
rapidly increasing, the city announced.
“The city is growing, but in order to remain a city for all, we need to
make sure that real estate taxes are fairly applied and allow residents
to not be priced out of their homes,” Mayor Bill Peduto said in a
statement.

Jersey's property tax system is broke, and it's making taxpayers feel
the same way.
"We're paying on average $11,000. Our taxes went up by 35 percent within
the last five years," said an exasperated Adam Seyhan, a resident of
Equestra, a 55 and older community in Howell.
About 60 people like Seyhan came to Brookdale Community College to speak
their minds about the state's most consistently frustrating issue. The
free event was part of the "Community Conversations" series jointly
sponsored by Brookdale and the Asbury Park Press.

Many
people believe tax season is soon to be over, but the truth is tax
season never ends.
Buy anything at a store, and there will be tax. Some income tax may be
refunded, but not FICA tax. And if someone owns property, they will be
taxed — usually.
Property tax is a major source of income for local goverment. Counties,
cities, villages and towns in Wisconsin could not survive without
property tax, but only a small portion goes to the state.

Hawaii News Now
Hawaii has the lowest property tax rates in the country, and the
Honolulu City Council is aiming to keep them that way for the upcoming
fiscal year.
On the surface, that sounds good to homeowners. But could Hawaii's low

Religious organizations around the state are watching a case before
the state’s highest court that some say could affect property tax
exemptions for churches.
The Supreme Judicial Court heard oral arguments in a case in which
the Shrine of Our Lady of LaSalette in Attleboro is appealing that
city’s decision to tax part of the 200 acres that officials say are not
being used substantially for religious purposes or instruction.

A
nonprofit Gahanna radio station that plays Christian music is a place
of "public worship" and thus exempt from property taxes, a divided Ohio
Supreme Court ruled.
The 4-3 ruling overturns the state tax commissioner's finding that the
property of WCVO (104.9 FM) owned by Christian Voice is a commercial
enterprise, with its property used exclusively as a radio station — not
as a church.

People are the heart of any organization, yet leading a team of
employees is often referred to as "herding cats." So what is the best
approach to creating effective teams and team members? Teams are
dependent upon the people within them, and the keys to success are how
to treat them and what type of group structure to create. As a former
supervisor and team leader in the Department of Defense, I understand
how insurmountable this task may seem.
