strong surge in real estate transactions, new commercial and
residential construction and rising housing prices should generate a
$3-plus billion increase in property tax revenues for schools and local
governments during the current fiscal year.
Local property tax assessors closed their books on June 30 and are
reporting valuation gains ranging as high as 9 percent in San Francisco,
which has the state’s hottest property market.

Mobil may have to release documents related to the costs of the
property where it built its sprawling new campus.
The Harris County Appraisal District asked a state district judge last
week to order Exxon Mobil Corp. to release documents related to the
facility near The Woodlands. It’s the latest move in a legal dispute
between the appraisal district and the oil giant over property taxes.

Vancouver is one step closer to taxing vacant property as officials try
to address affordability in the city's red hot housing market.
According to the latest Teranet-National Bank House Price Index, the
average price in the city has risen to $898,255 Canadian dollars
($693,500) and the annual property price increase is now pegged at 23.4

Dayton company that owns and leases property to a publicly funded
charter school is not entitled to a property tax exemption, the Ohio
Supreme Court ruled.
The 4-3 ruling was in line with previous decisions by Ohio Tax
Commissioner Joseph Testa and the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals regarding
250 Shoup Mill LLC, a company that leases property to Horizon Science
Academy, a public charter school in Dayton.

New York City failed to collect nearly $60 million in tax revenue
because the Department of Finance improperly awarded tax credits to dead
people and corporations, an audit by the city comptroller released
Thursday found.
Comptroller Scott Stringer accused the Department of Finance, the agency
responsible for collecting taxes, of failing to take the most basic
steps to ensure that tax credits intended for seniors were going to
people.

According
to the release, the 5 percent discount was discontinued because the
Office of the Tax Assessor will no longer issue two bills each year. The
discount was given to assist property owners to offset hardship as a
result of issuing two bills in the same year.
The release adds that the Office of the Tax Assessor is now on schedule
with the issuance of the property tax bills, therefore it will issue one
bill per year going forward.

homes or other property are damaged or destroyed during wildfire or
other natural disaster to apply for property tax relief.
The tax relief is prorated based on the number of days in the tax year

State Sen. Sal DiDomenico, D-Everett, and his colleagues in the
Massachusetts Senate recently passed S.1494, An Act increasing the
property tax deferral for seniors. This bipartisan piece of legislation
would offer property tax relief to homeowners 65 or older across the
commonwealth by increasing the income guidelines for the statewide
senior tax deferment program, thereby allowing more seniors to qualify.
