Below-market
property valuations and constitutional caps on tax increases are
depriving Oklahoma schools, counties and cities of tens of millions of
dollars in annual revenue, according to a recent data study.
The data analysis shows that 52 of the state’s 77 counties would have
generated an additional $192 million in property tax revenue in 2014 if
their valuations had been accurate and if they could have immediately
begun collecting the proper amounts.

Alaska Department of Revenue is soliciting comments on possible changes
to state tax regulations. Advice is being asked on two sets of
potential new regulations, one on a change in the state oil and gas
property tax statute made in 2014 in Senate Bill 138 and a second on the
changes in state oil and gas exploration and development incentive tax
credits made in the 2016 session, in House Bill 247.

St. Thomas Source
Recently
on St. John, the Finance Committee considered and then held a bill
aimed to reduce increases in "assessed" real property values, based in
part on family connections to the property owner.
Property taxes have been a contentious issue for many years for St.
Johnians in particular. As wealthy individuals have purchased property
on the island, assessed property values for St. John have increased at a
greater pace than the rest of the territory, which means that long-time
St. John residents have seen their property taxes increase more than
homeowners elsewhere in the territory.

TNS via Government Technology
The
potential for using unmanned aircraft systems in the insurance industry
has some companies looking to North Dakota for help with researching
applications.
The technology can be used for aerial inspection purposes that could
help those companies evaluate damage to homes following severe weather,
among other uses. The Northern Plains UAS Test Site, which researches
the safe integration of unmanned aircraft into the national airspace,
has seen interest from the industry.

Have you seen the latest picture of Usain Bolt? It's currently trending
all over the internet, showing how superhuman the Olympic runner truly
is. Is he superhuman because he exudes the confidence everyone desires
or because he's the fastest man in the world? Obviously, the second is
true, but I think in some ways the first is, too. Confidence doesn't
come naturally to some of us, but it's something that can be worked on —
especially in the workplace.
