Add
property tax reassessments to the growing list of problems caused by
the recent historic flood in Louisiana. By state law, parish assessors
must reassess all properties that sustained flood damage. Though there's
no deadline by which the new assessments must be done, property tax
bills typically go out in early December, which leaves local assessors
precious little time.

significant loss for the McLennan County Appraisal District and some
local taxing entities. A jury in the courtroom of 170th District Judge

The
Chicago Board of Education has approved a roughly $5.4 billion budget
that relies on a series of property tax hikes, more borrowing and a
financial windfall from a gridlocked state government coming to
fruition. The board also authorized a credit line of more than $1.5
billion to help the district pay its bills this year and up to $945
million in borrowing for largely unspecified school construction
projects.

Property
tax, surveys find, is the most hated of all taxes. Why is it,
detractors say, that you have to keep paying the government on something
that you own — forever? Or, in the words of one protester on YouTube,
property tax is "oxymoronic, unjust, and un-American!" On that last
point, he’s onto something, at least on a literal level.

further cuts, supervisor James Quigley said. The commercial park, once
an IBM campus, isn't alone in wanting to feed less into municipal
coffers.

Words are powerful tools, and what you say really matters. If you say
something in the wrong way or the context is off, this can become a real
problem in the workplace. This is even more critical for the company's
decision-makers. Leaders should be held to a higher standard when
communicating to their teams. Their words can make or break a person in
their employ.
