recently.

long battle of tax disputes between the CVS Health Corporation and the
Monroe County assessor now has an even split of wins and losses. CVS
began appealing its property tax assessment years ago, believing the
county was improperly valuing stores. Monroe County wants the tax
assessment to be based on how much the property is worth to the current
user, but CVS wants it based on the value of an empty store.

state's reliance on property taxes. This fall, voters could take a step
toward changing it. A November ballot question will ask voters whether
local taxing authorities should be able to exempt residents from paying
property taxes on their homes.

Lincoln County and many communities across the country today, according
to David Gambrel. Gambrel, the county's property valuation
administrator, said there are about 300 properties in Lincoln County
alone that are considered heirs' land.

The
city of Wausau will return more than $96,000 in taxes to Menards to
settle the retailer's complaint that its property assessment was nearly
twice the actual value. Menards disputed the assessment of its property
at 2801 Stewart Ave. for 2015 and 2016, saying it should be no more than
$6.15 million, according to court documents. The city had valued the
store at a little over $12.2 million both years.
