The
IAAO Board recently approved a new enforcement section to the IAAO Code
of Ethics. This section and recent changes to the overall Code will be
the focus of a complimentary IAAO webinar for all members at 11 a.m.
Central on June 15.
The
enforcement section was recently exposed to membership for 30 days, and
following a review of comments, the Board approved the document. A copy of the Code of Ethics, including the new enforcement section, is available to download from the IAAO website,
or at the link below. In addition, the Ethics Committee has updated the
ethics complaint form and copies are also available to download from
the website.
The
webinar, set for 11 to 11:30 a.m. Central on Wednesday, June 15, will
be presented by IAAO President Wade Patterson and Ethics Committee Chair
Bruce Woodzell. They will review the work by the committee, outside
legal counsel, and IAAO, and the expected impact on members.
In 2021, the Ethics Committee updated several parts of the Code of Ethics to
coordinate with the revised IAAO Strategic Plan, clarify existing
language, and outline compliance with appropriate professional
standards.
In
2022, the new enforcement section was developed by the Ethics Committee
and reviewed by the Governance Committee and Board of Directors. The
new enforcement section outlines the process to file a complaint, the
alleged violation evaluation process, potential sanctions, publication
of sanctions, and the appeals and reinstatement process.
