RE: IAAO Weekly Update

Like bears coming out of winter hibernation, some of us are slowly taking steps to move outside our 'caves' and back into the workplace. However, with only some assessor offices open, we are again sending our Fair+Equitable magazine electronically this month, with plans to resume printing our next issue to send to our print members. Check out the issue online for stories on new COVID-19 resources, California’s ballot initiative to alter Prop 13, and news on running for the IAAO Board of Directors.

IAAO Office – The IAAO headquarters office is now open on a partial basis as Kansas City has modified its stay-at-home order to allow a limited number of people in businesses. While only a few are in the office each day, the remaining team members continue to tele-work. No matter the location, the office, or remote, IAAO continues to work!

Classes – As the country opens, coordinators have begun to contact IAAO regarding hosting in-person classes later this summer. Until then, IAAO has continued to move forward to offer new live online classes. Among the upcoming courses scheduled from now through the end of June are 101 – Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal; 300 – Fundamentals of Mass Appraisal; 311 - Real Property Modeling Concepts; 331 – Mass Appraisal Practices & Procedures; and 400 – Assessment Administration. In addition, cohort versions of 101, 331, and 102 - Income Approach to Valuation are scheduled.

Conference - IAAO continues to monitor the situation in Denver in preparation for the annual conference. Whether it is held in person, virtually, or a hybrid version of both – we WILL have a conference this year!

Webinars – IAAO has a series of topical webinars coming up, including free webinars on historical events impacting the economy, how to use Excel in conducting ratio studies, and revisions to the IAAO property tax policy standard in the age of COVID-19. Check out the list online.

As things are starting to slowly return to some semblance of 'normal,' we will discontinue the regular updates and will only send messages on an 'as-needed' basis now. Don’t let that stop you from reaching out, though. IAAO headquarters team and members of the Board of Directors are always just a phone call or an email away. If you have a question, or would like to speak with someone, please feel free to reach out!

We hope the re-opening in your area is safe and we are soon able to meet again, but until then, stay strong and stay healthy!
