Election Deadlines & Procedures

Congratulations on your interest in being a candidate for IAAO leadership! You may have a number of questions about the campaign and election procedures. We will try to answer many of those here, and I would invite you to call us any time with additional questions. Your staff contact for questions about your questionnaire and writing your candidate profile is Cindy Mead, Executive Assistant (mead@iaao.org).

Important Deadlines

The Election Calendar for 2019 is available on the IAAO Website. Please review it carefully, as IAAO must strictly adhere to these deadlines.

JULY 1 Candidate Questionnaire and supporting materials, profile form and photo submitted to HQ
SEPTEMBER 8-11 Candidates are introduced at the Annual Conference
NOVEMBER 1 - 15 Balloting is conducted via online ballot
NOVEMBER 20 Election results are certified
DECEMBER 7 Campaign election reports must be filed with the Executive Director

When Candidates CANNOT Run

All candidates will be carefully considered. It is important to note, however, that candidates from the following states CANNOT run for Board of Directors positions that begin in 2020, as there are already sitting Board of Directors members from these states: Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, and Tennessee.  This does not apply to the officer positions.

Your First Step - The Candidate Questionnaire

Please fill out the online questionnaire and submit it to IAAO Headquarters no later than July 1, 2019. Scan and submit the three supporting documents and proof of having taken Workshop 171 as outlined at the end of the questionnaire and email those to mead@iaao.org.

Your Next Step - Candidate Profile Form

The candidate profile form is available on the IAAO website. The information provided will be printed in the Fair & Equitable magazine, and sent with the paper ballots.

Please note the following rules regarding the profile:

  1. Your profile must be 1,800 characters or less, submitted on the online profile form (See the election information from IAAO’s governing documents, eligibility, rules and policies).
  2. Endorsements will not be listed in the profile material.
  3. You must provide a Photo for the candidate profile brochure:
    • head shot
    • color
    • electronic photo in a .jpg or .tif format, 300 dpi or greater.
  4. You must submit your candidate profile and photo by July 1, 2019. It is to your advantage to submit as early as possible so any issues can be addressed.

Candidate Selection

The Nominating Committee will review all the information from candidates and decide whether or not an interview is necessary. The candidate will be notified on or before August 1st as to whether their name will appear on the slate. The slate will formally be announced at the 85th Annual Conference, September 8-11, 2019, in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

Promoting Your Candidacy

Once the Nominating Committee has chosen the slate, candidates will be provided with options for promoting their candidacy.

2019 Electronic Voting

Regular members in good standing will be able to vote electronically from November 1-15, 2019 for the 2020 Regular Board Member and Officer positions. There will not be a candidate for Associate Members in the 2019 election.

On behalf of the 2019 Nominating Committee, we thank you again for your interest in serving IAAO in a leadership capacity. Should you submit the necessary information for candidacy and later encounter circumstances that will prevent you from running or make you ineligible for the position you are seeking, please notify me, or the Chair of the Nominating Committee, Doris Koch (dkoch@taad.org) as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at 816-701-8100.

Sincerely,

Ron Worth, CAE
Executive Director
